Jon Bon Jovi encouraging volunteerism

Rocker opens pay-what-you-can restaurant in New Jersey to encourage volunteer work in the community.

The JBJ Soul Kitchen restaurant will specialize in healthy variations on classic soul food. But where it really sets itself apart from the regular restaurant model is in the payment. The menu won’t list any prices—instead, diners can earn free meals by doing volunteer work in the community. The option of paying a suggested donation will also be there.

“We have to get rid of a few stigmas attached to the word volunteering and making a difference,” says Bon Jovi.

The restaurant has been serving meals since 2009, but is now opening a new, permanent location in Red Bank, New Jersey.
