The Foundation for
a Mindful Society
Working on your behalf to create a mindful society, fostering resilience, connection, and well-being for all
Timeline of the Foundation
The Foundation’s Story
The Foundation for a Mindful Society has a pretty simple mission: we support the work of mindfulness champions to increase health, well-being, kindness, and compassion in society.
We mainly do this through our flagship publications: Mindful magazine and Mindful.org, as well as our digital media channels and special publications. Through these channels, we present evidence-based, trustworthy, accessible content about the benefits of mindfulness to millions of people around the world. Subscribing to these publications and donating to the Mindful Foundation allows this work to flourish.
We are not just a media company
In addition to our media focus, the Mindful Foundation takes on advocacy and social innovation projects that can significantly advance mindfulness in society. We choose high leverage areas and take a leading role as project activators through connecting, consulting, social innovation initiatives, business collaborations, and more.
The Foundation for a Mindful Society serves the field as an objective voice and nonprofit champion for the public good. We advocate for the best of the mindfulness movement, and we do it all to bring the benefits of mindfulness to you, your relationships, and our society.
There is so much more we can do
Every week, exciting projects come our way that could make a transformative difference in bringing mindfulness into our society. When we’re unable to engage for lack of staff or financial resources, we seek visionary philanthropic partnerships to enable us to provide support for these important projects.
The two main projects we are now engaged in are:
- Mindful Cities Providing consulting support and services to help bring mindfulness practices into all aspects of civic leadership to help cities flourish.
- Mindfulness in Education Creating free, actionable self-care mindfulness practices that address the main sources of school teacher burnout: stress, overwhelm and frustration.
And we can’t do this without your help
If you are in favor of more mindfulness in society, then the Mindful Foundation is your partner and agent. We are a nonprofit 501 (c)(3), and all donations are tax-deductible. Your support enables key mindfulness initiatives that will bring greater health, well-being, compassion, and resilience into the world. And we thank you.

How We Got Here
In addition to the hard work of a dedicated staff, the Foundation for a Mindful Society has received support from some visionary people.
The Hemera Foundation was our founding foundation; without them the Mindful Foundation would not be where we are today. They provided strategic guidance, expertise, and financial support that enabled Mindful magazine and Mindful.org to weather the challenging stages of starting up a media and community building enterprise.
The 1440 Foundation has also supported us from the beginning. As a leading co-creator and supporter of mindfulness-based initiatives across North America, 1440 continues to provide counsel on business and strategy, as well as funding. Their 1440 Multiversity, a purpose built learning community for the mindfulness community, has just launched.
And while speaking of invaluable financial support, we also want to thank our two totally anonymous benefactors whose annual donations have made a huge difference to Mindful’s annual operations. Our anonymous tip of the hat to them both.
