Yann Martel

Award-winning author Yann Martel obtained a degree in philosophy from Trent University in Ontario, then worked at various jobs before taking up writing full-time from the age of 27.

His books include The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios (1993), a collection of short stories; the novel Self (1996); the novel Life of Pi (2002), for which he won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction; a collection of short stories entitled We Ate The Children Last (2004); What is Stephen Harper Reading? (2009) and his latest novel, Beatrice and Virgil (2010).

Martel lives with writer Alice Kuipers and their son, Theo, in Saskatoon.
