Meet the Team
Amishi Jha
Amishi Jha is an associate professor of psychology and Director of Contemplative Neuroscience, Mindfulness Research & Practice Initiative at the University of Miami. Her research focuses on the brain bases of attention, working memory, and mindfulness-based training. With grants from the US Department of Defense and several private foundations, her current projects investigate how to best promote resilience in high-stress cohorts using contemplative/mind training techniques that strengthen the brain’s attention networks. She was selected as a Science and Public Leadership Fellow by PopTech, and serves on editorial review boards of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Frontiers in Cognitive Science, and Frontiers in Psychology.
Anne Alexander
Anne Alexander is the Editor of Mindful Magazine and the author of two New York Times best-sellers. Passionate about empowering people to realize their full potential, Anne served twice as the Editor-in-Chief of Prevention and SVP/Editorial Director at National Geographic. She has been developing award-winning content and consumer-centric brands fueled, in part, by an awareness and aliveness gained through three decades of meditation and mindfulness. A certified yoga instructor, Anne teaches yoga and meditation with a special focus on welcoming newcomers.
Tim Ryan
Tim Ryan represents the 13th District of Ohio in the United States Congress. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002 and was sworn in on January 3, 2003. Successfully reelected eight times, he is now serving in his ninth term. Congressman Ryan currently serves as a member of the House Appropriations Committee which controls the expenditure of money by the federal government. He is the author of Healing America: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Recapture the American Spirit.
Lt General Walter Piatt
Lieutenant General Walter Piatt is honored to serve as the 57th Director of the Army Staff. Lieutenant General Piatt completed several operational deployments to include Suriname, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and published two books from his experience in Afghanistan. He served the Commanding General for the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum from 2017 – 2019. In March of 2018 the Division deployed to Iraq and assumed duties as the Coalition Joint Force Land Component Command (CJFLCC) where LTG Piatt led the transition of the CJFLCC to the Iraqi Security Forces. He has been working with neuroscientist Amishi Jha to understand the impact of mindfulness training for high-stress situations.
