Company Promotes Mindfulness in Campaign

UK telecommunications company BT ran a two-week campaign in October to highlight the importance of good mental health for its staff.

Group health adviser at BT, Dr. Catherine Kilfedder, says the topic of mindfulness was included in an expert content call. Employees could dial in to such calls, which were only one part of the health campaign. "We are doing one [expert content call] with our employee assistance consultant about mindfulness, and how people can use that as a psychological tool to improve their health and wellbeing," said Kilfedder. Question and answer sessions took place afterward.

BT also published a series of articles in its in-house newspaper, with expert comments, case studies and links to resources. Staff were invited to post views and questions on BT's Your Views website, or share experiences of how they promoted their own good mental health. The company's initiative coincided with World Mental Health Day on October 10.
