Join us for mindfulness and compassion retreats to cultivate centeredness, calmness and perspective on beautiful Samish Island in Washington state. The retreats offer a deep exploration of the roots of mindfulness and compassion practices both experientially and through a series of talks on philosophy, spiritual teachings, poetry and the sciences. Days include a series of gently guided practices including sitting meditation, walking meditation, loving kindness meditation and gentle yoga.

Researchers have shown that the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) practices on which our training intensives are based result in benefits both emotional and physical including:

  • decreasing depression, anxiety and stress,

  • improving the areas of the brain responsible for empathy and problem solving.

These residential Training Intensives include all the content and exercises of our full, 8-week classes condensed into 5 consecutive days in a peaceful resort setting.

Online Mindfulness for Healthcare Professionals

Our online training for healthcare professionals brings evidence-based stress reduction training to medical professionals in an easy-to-access, easy-to-complete format. This training includes the core elements of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training in a compressed schedule – four “classroom” sessions plus an extended day session.

This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.


We offer two levels of teacher training and certification. The Foundational Training is an in-depth, 9-month intensive cohort-based program is designed to prepare individuals and professionals from diverse backgrounds to design and lead clear and compassionate mindfulness programs in a variety of settings. It is also a foundational training for the delivery of mindfulness-based programs and interventions.

The MBSR Teacher Training requires the Foundational Training (or equivalent) and is our new apprenticeship-based program for becoming a Certified Teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). The program is for those who have already received training in teaching and leading meditation, yoga, or related contemplative disciplines. The teacher certification program involves extensive hands-on in-classroom training in a small cohort with a high faculty-to-student ratio.
