SUMMARY:Skymind: Resting in Our Natural State
DESCRIPTION:A thousand years ago\, Machig Labdrön\, the renowned 11th century Tibetan yogini\, taught that it is only in meeting our fears and shadows that we are able to access the wisdom and peace we so deeply yearn for. We are invited to “go to the places that scare you” – not with armor and aggression but with curiosity and compassion. \nIn this retreat\, Charlotte Rotterdam and Pieter Oosthuizen\, senior teachers at Tara Mandala Retreat Center\, founded by Lama Tsultrim Allione\, will draw on Machig’s direct teachings\, practice open awareness meditation\, and cultivate the warmth of community in order to access the spacious brilliance of our minds and the tenderness of our care. \nThese ancient insights are grounded in the profound understanding of our fundamental\, indestructible wholeness and the recognition that the sky-like vastness of our awareness can hold and embrace whatever arises. They offer refuge and guidance as we engage a world marked by uncertainty\, confusion\, and even despair. \nHow can we draw on the depths of our innate wakefulness to meet this moment of time with clarity and a fiercely loving heart? Our practice is not to effort more\, but to access\, rest into\, and engage from the awakened heart-mind which lies within each of us. \nTEACHERS\nPartners in life\, teaching\, and parenting\, Charlotte Rotterdam and Pieter Oosthuizen draw on decades of dedicated study and practice to share the rich teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and their application to modern life. They are senior teachers (Lopöns) at Tara Mandala Retreat Center\, founded by Lama Tsultrim Allione\, and offer retreats worldwide. They have also studied with Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche\, Lama Tharchin Rinpoche\, Lama Wangdu Rinpoche\, and Orgyen Khakhyab Lingpa Rinpoche\, among others. Raised in New York City\, Charlotte received a Masters in Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School. She is faculty at Naropa University and directs the Center for the Advancement of Contemplative Education. Pieter received his Law degree in his native South Africa. His love of people\, places\, and cultures has carried him around the globe. He has served in leadership roles at Naropa University and Tara Mandala\, and currently directs the Feeding your Demons Institute. Their recent book\, Skymind: The Radical Path of Open Awareness (Shambhala\, 2026)\, highlights the nature of mind teachings of the 11th century Tibetan yogini Machig Labdrön and their application to modern life. Together they lead the Skymind Sangha from their home in Boulder\, Colorado\, where they live with their two sons. www.skymind.us

SUMMARY:AI Symposium: AI as Infrastructure for the Support of Compassion and a Better Life
DESCRIPTION:A free online symposium on AI and human flourishing\nArtificial intelligence is fast becoming part of the infrastructure of daily life\, shaping the information we see\, the decisions institutions make\, and how we learn and relate to one another. This free\, two-part online symposium from the Global Compassion Coalition asks a timely question: how do we help AI develop in ways that strengthen\, rather than diminish\, our humanity? \n\nJoin online on November 4\, 11 am–1 pm PT\, for a conversation about guiding AI toward compassion\, fairness\, dignity\, and collective wellbeing.\n\nPanel 1: What is being done now to align AI in a prosocial direction?\nResearchers and practitioners look at current approaches to AI design\, training\, evaluation\, and governance\, and at both the promise and the limits of building values like compassion\, fairness\, and human agency into increasingly powerful systems. With Sessei Meg McNeil (Tassajara Zen Mountain Center)\, Rafael Calvo\, PhD (Imperial College London)\, Jane Compson\, PhD (University of Washington Tacoma)\, Mark Graves\, PhD (AI and Faith)\, and Max Lamparth\, PhD (Stanford University). \nPanel 2: What can we do collectively to nudge AI in prosocial ways?\nThe second conversation widens the lens to the roles researchers\, technologists\, educators\, policymakers\, civil society\, and everyday citizens can play\, and how we might move from reacting to technological change to helping shape it. With Paul Atkins\, PhD (ProSocial World)\, Adam Elwood\, PhD (Aily Labs)\, Ruben Laukkonen\, PhD (University of Oxford)\, Stacey Lawson (Positive AI Labs)\, and Roma Patel (Google DeepMind). \nThe symposium is hosted by Myriam Mongrain\, PhD\, a clinical psychologist\, Full Professor of Psychology at York University\, and Chair of the Global Compassion Coalition’s Science Committee. \nWho it’s for\nAnyone curious about what AI’s rapid development means for our lives\, relationships\, and communities. No technical background is needed\, just curiosity and care for the future we’re creating together. \nThe event is free. Click the button below to reserve your place.

SUMMARY:Wilderness Wellness Retreats: Virgin Islands
DESCRIPTION:Our programs are shaped by landscapes.\nEach one offers its own medicine. Each one supports a different kind of remembering. Some landscapes open us. Others ground us. All of them invite us into deeper relationship with ourselves\, each other\, and the world around us. \nIn each program location\, we consider the ecosystems at play—mountains\, desert\, water\, open spaces\, forests\, sky\, dark sky—and how their unique characteristics can support your healing\, integration\, and belonging. \nHealing with the land is not extractive. We enter with respect. We receive what’s offered. And we return care in turn. \nThis is relational healing—guided by the land\, held by the seasons\, and rooted in reciprocity. \nOn each program page\, you’ll learn about the gifts of each landscape you may encounter during our immersive\, evidence-based experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Stewardship\, Adventure & Island Connection Retreat on St. John at Virgin Islands National Park is facilitated in collaboration with Friends of Virgin Islands National Park\, the official nonprofit partner of Virgin Islands National Park. \nABOUT THIS EVENT\nSpend a week giving back to Virgin Islands National Park while discovering what becomes possible when stewardship\, adventure\, and reflection come together. Our days are spent working alongside Friends of Virgin Islands National Park\, and our evenings invite us to slow down\, share meals\, explore the island\, and reconnect with ourselves\, each other\, and this remarkable place. Rather than experiencing St. John as a tourist passing through\, you’ll spend the week as a temporary local caretaker of the island\, contributing to the trails\, historic sites\, and landscapes that make this national park so special. \nVirgin Islands National Park protects nearly two-thirds of the island of St. John\, where tropical forests\, coral reefs\, historic sugar plantation ruins\, and white sand beaches exist side by side. It’s one of the few places where you can spend the morning restoring a historic trail and the afternoon snorkeling over a coral reef. By the end of the week\, you’ll know the island not just by the places you visited\, but by the places you helped care for. \nHere’s what you can look forward to: \n\n\nHeal with the land through environmental stewardship. \n\n\nExplore the island through mindful hikes and cultural immersion in breathtaking landscapes. \n\n\nReconnect with yourself through guided reflection and conversation. \n\n\nRemember what you’re capable of through meaningful adventure. \n\n\nBuild friendships that continue long after the week is over. \n\n\nA Day in the Life \nYou wake to the sound of frogs and Caribbean birds before the sun rises over the bay. Coffee in hand\, you wander down to the beach for an early morning swim while the island is still quiet. After breakfast\, we head to our volunteer project\, spending the morning caring for trails and historic sites alongside Friends of Virgin Islands National Park. By early afternoon\, we’ve traded loppers and shovels for swimsuits\, cooling off in turquoise water before settling into a hammock\, picking up a good book\, or exploring a new beach. Evenings are spent sharing dinner\, learning from park staff and local experts\, reflecting on the day together\, and gradually settling into the slower rhythm of island life.

SUMMARY:Mindfulness for Anxiety & Low Mood: 4-night retreat
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThe Mindfulness Retreat for Anxiety and low mood is a 4-night stay at The Coach House retreat venue in beautiful South Devon\, offering a restorative and supportive environment for those experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or low mood. \nThis is a supportive space where you’ll combine mindfulness practice with time spent in nature\, helping you to learn how to step out of cycles of worry & rumination\, self-criticism and overwhelm and begin to relate to your thoughts and feelings with greater kindness and balance. \nBoth retreat leaders are trained mindfulness teachers (and practising therapists and counsellors) with longstanding experience of our approach to Mindfulness-Based Nature Connection. \nThis retreat incorporates the nature-based mindfulness teachings & practices from our Mindful-in-Nature programme that we ran for nearly a decade. \nYou’ll stay in a single-occupancy room – most of which are en-suite – in our beautifully converted 18th century Coach House quadrangle. \nPlease note: this retreat is not suitable for those experiencing severe anxiety\, depression\, an acute mental health crisis or who require clinical or therapeutic intervention. \nSchedule\nIf you’re coming to stay with us on retreat\, it is important to make a commitment to arrive in time for the first group meeting and to attend all the days. \nThis ensures you experience the retreat programme from start to finish and helps your group of participants to gel. \n\nSilence\nAll our retreats include periods of silence as a way of deepening into mindful awareness. \nIf you are new to spending time in silence in the company of other people\, it can feel awkward to begin with. But we encourage you to explore the silent periods with a spirit of openness and curiosity – people usually find it to be a positive experience. \nThe retreats typically move into silence each evening from 9pm – 9/9.30am the following day \n\n\nTypical Schedule\nDay 1: Arrive between 3 – 5pm for welcome meeting and settling in \n\n\n\nMornings\nAfternoons\n\n\n6.45am – wake up\n1.00pm – meditation\n\n\n7.00am – morning movement/meditation\n1.30pm – lunch\n\n\n8.00am – household tasks\n3.00pm – free time or group walk\n\n\n8.30am – breakfast\n6.00pm – supper\n\n\n9.30am – Home Group (silence ends)\n8.00pm – meditation and deep rest\n\n\n10.30am – gardening\n9.00pm – Personal time (Coach House moves into silence until 9.30am the next day)\n\n\n\n  \nFinal day: depart by 11am \nThe retreat will move into silence each evening from 9pm – 9/9.30am and on one full day in each retreat.
