The Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) studies the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being, and teaches skills that foster a thriving, resilient, and compassionate society.
Based at the University of California, Berkeley, the GGSC is unique in its commitment to both science and practice: not only does it sponsor groundbreaking scientific research into social and emotional well-being, it helps people apply this research to their personal and professional lives. Since 2001, the center has been at the forefront of a new scientific movement to explore the roots of happiness, compassion, strong social bonds, and altruistic behavior—the science of a meaningful life—and translating and disseminating this science to the public. The Greater Good online magazine fuses in-depth, practical reporting on the science of a meaningful life with inspiring stories of compassion in action. It provides a bridge between social scientists and parents, educators, community leaders, and policy-makers. Greater Good's Raising Happiness blog by innovative educator Christine Carter is a rich, humorous, and credible guide to raising kids in the 21st century. The center’smany events bring together leading scientists, educators, and members of the public to discuss concrete strategies for promoting the greater good.
