Giving it all up for mindfulness
Amy Gross has long been a player in the publishing world — known most recently to many as the editor in chief in of O: The Oprah Magazine. That is, until 2008, when she gave up she wryly calls "powers and perks universally acknowledged to be worth killing yourself for." Why would she forfeit all this?
For mindfulness meditation, which as she says, she'd been doing for years, but she "ached to dive in." And dive in she did, studying and teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction as pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Has it paid off? Well, Gross may no longer be the big cheese at Oprah's magazine, but in her new Newsweek/Daily Beast article, "Mindfulness Meditation Is Rediscovered," she reveals that the rewards of studying and sharing mindfulness meditation are in their own ways, pretty big themselves.
